We recently added search optimizations so PeopleJar performance should be “speedier.” We worked on memcaching certain frequently used search filter elements on the search results side bar page. This in turn reduced the load on the entire app.

Customizing Your Profile

September 25th, 2009

¡Hola! Now that you’ve made a PJ account it’s time to make it personal.
If you have a profile photo that looks like this…
Default Profile Image
…You are not going to stand out from the crowd.

Let’s start off with the simple stuff: adding your profile photo.
To add a photo, go to your profile.
Select Profile

>> Upload a new profile photo
Browse for Photo

>> Select an image and click “Save Changes.”
Save Changes
Once you hit Save Changes, our servers will crunch away and save the image. You’ll know when your photo is uploaded when you see a image appear in the profile photo box.
Successful Upload
Now that you’ve uploaded a profile photo. It’s time to fine tune your profile with more details. Hopefully, you have already filled out your name, gender, and current location.

You can select spoken languages – you never know who’s looking for someone who can speak fluent German or Mandarin Chinese. Many of the criteria allow you to add to your first value. Also if you misclick a wrong language, don’t sweat it – it’s easy to remove or edit that field. Move down the list and fill out as much information you can provide. Once you’re done, hit “Save Changes”.

It’s that easy! The more you fill out your profile, the easier it will be for other folks to find you. On the next update I will walk you through the Profession and Interests section. If you have questions, an idea, a problem with the site, or would like to show us some amore, feel free to visit our feedback page. Alrighty have fun!

Welcome to PeopleJar!

September 2nd, 2009

Howdy! I’m Jennifer and I’ll be your guide to PeopleJar in the forthcoming posts. PeopleJar was created with the belief that making a connection with anyone in the world should be easy. Whether you’re looking for someone who shares a common interest or someone who you can work with professionally, we all have moments where we need to find people and be found. With PeopleJar, you can do this without the needing to put up detailed personal information such as home addresses or cellphone numbers. You don’t even have to pay for access or go through the hassle of adding people as your “friend.”

PeopleJar is not Facebook or Myspace. Think of it as an Ebay search, but specifically for people. Ebay searches for things you want to buy, but PeopleJar searches for people you need. Ebay and PeopleJar both share a similar refine search filtering system that makes search powerful.

Say you need help with a film and are looking for people who can work a camera but also speak Korean. Your first search for filmmaker would bring back many results including myself, since I’ve listed filmmaker as one of my professions and interests. Adding an additional filter for Korean language would narrow the search down to me and a few other filmmakers who have listed it in their profile. Once you find your candidate, you can always go back to their profile by saving your search results or saving the person or visiting their unique PeopleJar address (mine is peoplejar.com/profile/jenniferjeanlee). Based on skills and interests, PeopleJar can help you quickly pick out the exact person you’re looking for from the crowd.

We’re always open to feedback are constantly working on improving your PeopleJar experience. If you have a question, an idea, a problem with the site, or would like to show us some TLC, feel free to visit our feedback page.
